as some of you will see, I'm on the lookout for a family car for my brother and his other half at the moment.

I saw an add for a 2004 mondeo Ghia X in the glasgow gumtree for £1400; add was a bit vague and I assumed it was probably a high miler. No phone number, only a contact through gumtree. To add to this, the advertiser has only recently registered.

I received the following e-mail this morning;

Hi there,

I appreciate your interest in my Ford Mondeo, it has 41,000 miles. The car is in perfect working condition, has no damage, no scratches, no marks or dents on paintwork, no hidden defects. There is no outstanding finance (HPI clear) and it has an accident free history. It has 12 months MOT and 6 months TAX. VRM Number is J77 GRF.
The final price is £1,400 GBP with shipping and insurance costs included. It's a UK model (right handed), meets United Kingdom DOT and EPA guidelines so there will be no problems regarding UK.
I have recently moved to Madrid, Spain and I started a small business here. The problem is that I have the money stocked with this car, right-hand drive it's a little tricky to drive it here.
The price is low because the car is worthless here, nobody wants to buy it. The car is at the shipping company in London and will be shipped from there directly to your door without any problems.

Now I don't know about you but it doesn't ring true with me. It reads as a scam all day long and the add has now mysteriously disappeared.

Now how do I respond??!! I could have some fun with the guy but i've used my work e-mail address so i'm easier to find than he is!

very fishy mate, thats the problem with gumtree half of the ads are scams or stolen stuff. i had the same response from a house rental advert, very similar format. living abroad, doesnt want to come back unless i was definitely taking the place, need to transfer some money to a safe account to prove i was genuine etc.....

Nah, this guy seems legit, come on, he's moved to Spain and everything.

I still fancy having some fun with ther guy though. I wonder if his Nigerian cousin has invested in his new business???
