well I know I'm going to get stick for this (extra weight, blah, blah!) but i'm looking on fitting a simply system into the mini. I know a few of you have as well and looking for a bit of a recommendation for a new head unit as I've out of this side of things for a good few years now.

So far i've got a 6 chanel Infinity amp (had it in my golf more than a few years ago), a single 10" sub which will be hidden away somwhere and a pair of 5" infinity components for the doors.

Now I do have a half decent Alpine head unit whcih I got of a mate a couple of years ago. Can't recall the spec but it was an ex-display from halfords retailing at some stupid price at the time. Anyhow, I was going to fit this but it is silver faced and doesn't fit in with the dash finish so am looking for a replacement. I used to use Denon units but they stopped making them now

I'm looking for something;

1) with 4 pre-outs if poss - min 2 though
2) black face
3) simple looking

I'm not bothered about MP3 and Ipod connections as I'm not that technologically advanced!

over to you guys

cheers

Rob

I had a proper cheapo head unit from halfords in my yaris I think it was 40quid. It ran my fusion sub, amp and component speakers great. And tbh it pissed all over my brother in laws system in his scooby and he paid a fortune for his install.
Infact im still running the head unit in my astra at the moment.

one day boost will be mine!

The Pioneer DEH-P77MP is a very classy unit, pretty sure its discontinued but you might be able to find so old stock and there are a few on ebay.

Must admit I'm a Pioneer fan. Really worth getting one with USB or media card slot, saves alot of hassle having discs in the car. :)

what boils my piss is analogue radio is getting phased out, but most head units still need an expensive add-on to receive DAB..

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Wouldnt reccoment any of the cheap sendai stuff from halfords, they have that many problems instead of getting the head units repaired they just bin them and give you another. Had a high end jvc head unit before and the SQ from that wasnt exactly amazing to be perfectly honest, and the screen went dodgy on me, now onto a sony head unit and for what i paid for it its absolutely perfect for what i need it for *happy*

ill see if i can find the model number cos i cant remember off the top of my head, but they should be pretty cheap now as its around 2 years old

I must have the odd one out then, its been working fine for 2years+ now. Doont get me wrong i'd rather look at a pioneer etc because they are finished with better build quality and look good.
But mine works and does everything required, for once I must of been lucky.

ive got that pioneer unit, i've had it for about 5 years now, and its still a bloody good unit. with Burr Brown DAC you get a good SQ unit. outputs to RCA are nice and high too. plus it looks are down rated, so some pikey chav shouldn't pay too much attention when he's looking for to steal one for his fiesta...

That Alpine also has an ipod full speed connection if that's your thing, you'll just need a lead.

Alpine all the way, Always been a fan, had a huge "trevor" system in my golf vr6, sounded so nice, 2 15" type R dual voice coils, set of 6" coax DDD drives in the rear and a set of type X in the front think they were 6", but all powered by alpine amps too, 4 m500's and 2 of the 4 channel amps.....was V.loud, then i grew up and got a turbo mini to plough my wages into......
