Hey all,

well its been a while since ive been in the garage, id say its cause ive been busy with uni work but i know u lot wouldnt believe me!!
anyway, i went to clean the garage up before i start back trying to get my shell finished and saw my compressor on its side, (mum admits it was her).
I released the stop at the bottom of the tank and water and oil came out! :(

So ive stripped the compressor and cleaned all the parts and joints, ive also stripped the motor and cleaned all the internals then rebuilt it.

My problem and question is tho, the tank has a layer of oily black gunk inside. Whats the best way to get rid of this?? Or is this tank no good now??

I dont wanna use water as the tank will rot, right??
Do i heat the tank to liquify the gunk then drain??
Im guessing im not gonna get rid of all of it but hopefully i can get rid of most of it!!

Any of your wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Martin

Never done this before, but personally, id pour some panel wipe or similar liquid that cuts through oil into the tank, swill it about and drain, and leave the drain plug open for 48 hours to let the vapour escape

'd say as above but you may need a couple of goes to get it all out, I'd also do a water flush after.

water is ok in there as long as it dosent sit, you always get a bit of moisure, thats why you have a water seperator

Air has water in it, hence a water drain in the tank, you'd be fine to flush it with water and the leave the tank open to dry.
