Hey guys

Big first post for me. I am in the US, and have a shot at this turbo "kit", attached. I've done turbos on a old 911 (protomotive kit) and S/C on a lotus, so I do have a little experience.

I am wondering if you think this kit is woth 1K USD - it looks complete except for a small rad for the water cooling on the turbo. Of course I would probably replace the turbo with a reman one to make sure it's fit.

A few questions:

1) If putting this on my 94 SPI car (25K original creampuff miles), I would of course need a new distributor. Do you think I would need a new head that had lowered CR?

2) Is this an engine-out affair, or can this be done with the engine in?
3) Can you think of anything else I would need other than the rad looking at this? I know a cam would be ideal.

Thanks!

Saw this too....definitely hold on to your cash...it is obvious by your questions that you should not spend money right now....just lots of time on the forum reading and searching.

Oh yeah...welcome to the forum! I'm in the US as well...East Coast. *wink*

Looks like the standard Metro Turbo exhaust manifold but not the standard T3 as it got a water cooled core (possibly a modified T2?). Even if it's smaller than the T3, because it's hanging off the Metro manifold it is extremely unlikely to fit in the engine bay without the bulkhead box modification, so engine out....

By UK secondhand prices, US$1k is way too expensive - but I guess that is down to availability of such parts in the USA.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Considering the Metro Turbo was never made in the US, I don't think its too far out price wise. It would be better if you could bargain a bit of money off the price.
It looks like most of the difficult to sort bits are there, I would plumb the water cooling into the engine cooling really rather than fitting a seperate radiator.
Its all very easy for people to spout on about assembling your own kit, but I'm willing to bet that by the time you've messed about getting the parts together piecemeal across from the UK or whereever, you will have spent nearly as much as it would cost to buy what is there anyhow.

There is plenty available over here if you are a bit patient. Plus great guys like Matty are willing to ship thier artwork at a reasonable rate.

I got a complete metro t-3 setup off of ebay last year for $500...mainly used for mock-up, but may use the carb/plenum for a 5 port setup and have a matty hi-flow w/gt17 on the shelf.... *happy* Will probably build a new motor from my spare block and keep my 1380 w/7 port and soon to be SC fuel injection separate.

dma550...where are you located?
