Tadley, Hampshire.

I have had a good search of the forums and havn't managed to find the answer to optimum engine steady length.

Clearly engine steadys need to hold the engine in position, but what is the optimum position?

To give more clearance for the actuator, exhaust clamp etc, my engine tilts at least another 25mm (or Austin 1"!) forward, is it better to be as upright as possible or does it not matter.

I have 2 steadys, do you set one at the optimal length and then simply adjust the other till it lines up?

I think most standard Minis have fixed length stead bars so is it better to set one engine steady at a set length? if so, which one and what length.

I know the temptation is to say if it aint broke dont fix it! But it would be nice to know the answer!

Shropshire.

I always used adjustable steadies on the block to tilt it forward slightly as required, then fixed position lower gearbox to subframe mounts.

25mm is a fair distance, I prefer my engine sat flat on the mounts.

It would be better IMO to re-drill the engine mounting poition further forwards, or modify the actuator bracket or bulkhead.
