Ok, so i've just acquired a complete and original metro turbo engine, with only 16K on it!

However im going to be removing the T3 setup and putting on my T2 with the mirage manifolds (bulkhead 'n' all that), however i need to know what work i need to do to the engine to run my T2 setup. Dependant on the condition of the bores i'll be keeping it 1275.

The T2 ive got has a 15psi actuator on it, so i'll probably be running around 12-13psi i reckon, however the standard metro turbo only runs around 5-6psi if im correct?

So what sort of compression ratio will i need for my boost? and therefore what work (pistons/combustion chamber sizes) will need doing?

Other than that im going to strip the unit down, change the cam for a avonbar PH2? wise choice?

Will whack on a duplex setup while im at it.

Will put on a lightened flywheel, but am stuck for clutch options, should i convert to pre-verto?

Will be running S/C drops, and will probably send the gearbox off to guessworks to be rebuilt and have a 4 pin diff fitted, however what F/D would people recommened for this setup, and 10" wheels?

Finally what are peoples opinions on rockers? should i leave the stanard rockers on or put some 1.5 rollers on?

Other than that i think im pretty sorted with the rest of it, i'll be running megajolt so have plenty of room up front for an intercooler and maybe front mount rad.

Any help greatly appreciated as awlays

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

firstley theres lots of questions there. all been answerd and discussed before!

for the head you need the combustion chambers modding to get 28ccs in there to run a CR of 8.5:1 so you can run the boost you need with an intercooler of corse!

i suggest you look in the frequentley asked questions section, and expect to fork out over 4k for a decend engine which will produce over 200 + bhp if thats what you are after ?

having said that 130 ish bhp isnt hard to achive
hope this helps !

I do apologise, i should of thought about having a quick gander round before, the main query i had was about the C/R so thanks for answering that

In no way am i looking for a 200+bhp engine, just want a useable, driveable motor.

Thanks again!

I which case, just make sure it's in good condition, get another actuator (5psi), intercooler and forget about the long list of stuff you listed.

This will net you a nice drivable motor and you can upgrade later once you get the taste for more boost (this will happen).

Agree with the above. X pin diff a good idea as even a std engine can break the std diff. But otherwise as said lowish boost plus an intercooler should be good for 120bhp or so which will trounce the majority of 1380's etc in other road Minis.

I'll split the head off, check the bores and whack some new gaskets on

Will also split the gearbox off and put a central pickup in and a 4 pin diff

This way i guess it leaves me the scope for more power in the future, and it's not a big task to pull the engine and upgrade some bits an pieces

So the standard clutch setup will be ok with around 5psi boost? I'll check the clutch plate when i split the box, and maybe put a new one in

Definately will be running an I/C so all good there

Sounds like a plan then, saves me sending off the head for work, i might put a duplex setup on just for piece of mind.

Well with the cost saving of this option, i can sort out and order the megajolt and all the bits and pieces

AP turbo clutch will be fine.

You can't go down with a boost controller, only up.

Diff is a good idea as Tom says. Go for the Minispares one.

Excellent

Well i'l whip off the 15psi actuator and put a lower one one, i've found a 6psi actuator, i assume this will be a safe boost level at standard spec?

Right AP turbo clutch, 4 pin diff, centre oil pick up, and new gaskets

Best get ordering some bits then!

If it's a stock Metro Turbo lump 26cc in the head will give you 8.5-1 If you're only planning on running the stock 7psi Max boost then there's no need to lower the compression from standard. The stock clutch will be ok with a new AP plate fitted.
