theres the nms boost curve wil .not much difference in pick up of boost ,so something, maybe mixture or timing is losing 50 to 60 lbs/ft down in that 4500 to 5000 rpm region and creating that sudden t3 like jump.hmmmm...interesting,did the dyno operator map the ignition and mixture step by step ?

We ran out of time and battery to refine the map. The idea was to get it safe and then log and make changes as we use it. We did all the mapping, the RR guy just advised and operated the road.

We never even touched the ignition map. I copied over the 'on-boost' regions, but not the rest.

I have a list of things to do, and one is to do a beter version of the old map.

It's all in the right direction

Well hopfully when you get time to look at the map you'll get that chunk back, plus a bit more at the top end,

two other things that occured to me that could have made a difference, is have you gone to significantl bigger ports & valves? as its a SC head I presume the ports are pretty small, and I seem to remember mention of a special small valve version of the head, dunno of you went for that in the end. anyway, my point is slower gas speed could have pushed the curve up, but I'd expect to see a change in the boost.

Also how long are your intakes,

The thing with SC is that they are very accomodating, so you can ask for the head with whatever valves and chamber size/shape you want. We kept the valve sizes the same as the old 5-porter (33/29).

Ports are 36mm at the flange.

Runner lenghts are a bit short at less than 200mm valve to bell mouth. gass speeds could be lower, but not by much.

When we built the first 998 turbo 10 years ago and got 110bananas, the RR operator would not run any more boost and was firmly under the impression that we were already running the engine on a knife edge.

We just need to get this to some events and see how it performs.

I would agree, but it did go on to may 140 in very similar spec.

Anyway, who cares. Now you have taken a different path the development continues.

That is suberb. I am a big fan of 998cc lumps, I had a tuned one in MOT fo years and another mini I built with a 998 Cooper head/LCB/Stage 1 kit thing was great fun. Both bullet proof and would give a boggo 1275cc a run for it's money.

Look for forward to seeing your results.

Just been having a chat with Ben and he has pointed out something interesting with the graph.

Look how linear it is before boost, then suddenly everything. Before we started the mapping the operator did say that id rollers would struggle wit hthe low torque areas. I wonder if below 70lbft if the road is just not working?

Robert, plausable?
