Im about to assemble my 4 pin diff for my new gearbox. I found the link on guessworks site for assembly.

The problem being, is that mine is currently assembled and I need to take the pins and planet gears out to get my output shafts in.

Do I just take out the retaining screw, and punch out the pins? I don't want to break it!

Thanks
Ben

Probably dependant on what make diff you have.
Mine is a MiniSpares xpin.
It had 1 retaining screw which needs to come out.
Then it is a bit of a fiddle as you can't punch the pin that is locked by the screw out.
You need to take a very small screwdriver and push the pin out by manoeuvering the screwdriver in the hole of the retaining screw and push the pin out far enough to get hold of it from the outside.
Be careful not to damage the thread and the bearing surface of the pin.

That pin in mine was really tight; I had the diff on a radiator of central heating for some time.

The rest is pretty straight forward.

As above ^^^^

I used a small round bar (rather than a screwdriver) in the hole to get the pin moving. Once it is partly out you can grab it with pliers from the outside.

The full instructions are on MiniSpares website under the listing for the diff itself.

EDIT - just seen Sprocket's thread in the "How to" section.... interesting I don't remember mine having the extra hole Sprocket refers to, maybe they have modified them to make it easier.
