Right lads, I have been thinking again about bay cooling.

As you can see from the pic the only air getting in to the eng bay is super hot air, I ran the car up to temp today and when the fan came on it heated the eng bay up very HOT.

So what I was thinking of doing, is putting some swaged holes on the driver’s side wing to let some heat out, what do you think??

I am not up for cutting holes in the bonnet, I have had a look and bringing the back of it up but I am on sure of how it looks.

Thanks Simon.

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

what about just letting the bay get hot? keeps the electrics dry, and everything that needs to be cool is clearly catered for?

I presume that you mean inner wing, not wing?

When moving all the air exits under the car, not out of the side. As Denis says, not sure it's a massive issue, the engine is not air cooled so giving it air will be of little use.

On the metro there was a fan blowing cold air down some ducting at the carb, this may be of use for hot starting.

Experiment: Open the bonnet. Pour in a large bucket of water. Where does it all end up? Under the car, straight away. This demonstrates massive air gaps. The zone under the car is at lower pressure so all the hot air in the engine bay just ends up under the car. Yes heat rises, but not when there is a bleedin hurricane going on under the car and in the wings.

It really doesn't make a jot of difference to the operation of the engine if it gets hot under the bonnet anyway. As long as the engine cooling is ok, forget it.

My grill is pretty much blocked by my intercooler and I don't really have any problems with heat.

de-lipping the back edge of the bonet, and removing that rubber seal will have the same effect as raising the rear of the bonet, but being more subtle.. itll let cool air in from the rear of the bonet, down past the brake master and carb, and out through the floor/wing when mooving , and let hot air rise out when stationary.. dunno how effective it would be, but would be in keeping with the car..

Mate I really wouldn't worry about it.

Mine has no inner wings and the bonnet gets so hot it starts to go soft in the middle. *hehe!*

denis' idea sounds good, if you go down that route. You'd be best to fold the lip over on itself to retain some rigidity though.

My engine bay gets so hot that the dipstick and various other parts get too hot to touch
The coolant temp stays within normal limits, as does the oil, so, as already said, why worry about it.
