I've got some noise from my engine and I'm off to slark on Saturday, I want it sorted before I go ideally.

So I had noisey tappets on first start which turned out to be a loose locknut. It was corrected quicklyish. I can't remember if it was noisy before the turbo conversion or not but it's here now!!

I've checked and adjusted the tappets and re checked and re adjusted them so I know they are good.

The noise appears to be emitting from the rocker cover area and not the timing chain area but I'm not convinced!

I have bought a simplex kit with tentioner but I don't want tonpull it all appart and find it wasn't that.

So here Is the noise!!

As above, are they making contact with the cover? I have to push mine backwards when fitting to make sure that they clear.

What are you setting the clearances to?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Ah, I have had that on a supercharged engine with a high lift cam.

But I running a totally standard 998 cam and rockers.

I set the clearance to 0.3mm.

I'll try pushing the cover back and see if that helps, I may also try another cover as that is one I had on another engine.

Thanks

It does sounds very much like valve clearences to me.

What rockers are they? They can wear in the middle of the pad so that when you stick the feeler in you get your 0.3mm reading but with the dip in the middle the clearences are actually somewhat wider.

A good way of telling where the noise is coming from is to press a screwdrives blade against the engine in various places and put your ear on the other end. Basically a make shift stethoscope.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

but watch the screwdriver isnt near any moving parts or it will go through your head
