Did low oil in the dash pot at some stage in the life of the carb cause this?

The oil is there for damping purposes.

Yeah but why has it corroded at the top? It was totally wedged into the suction chamber (is that the right name?)

Oh and when i emptied the oil out of it it was fill of grit :( |

The dashpot oil is only to damper as above, shouldn't there be a thin groove for a circlip there? Is there any groove? Audi s4 b5 - 470bhp & 486ft lbs

no I don't think so, Just a bit of rust and it almost looks like somebody hit it with something as the edge is a bit bent

HS4 didn't have the circlip. Only HIF's I believe. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

didnt realise it was a hs4. Audi s4 b5 - 470bhp & 486ft lbs

My guess is that the carb has stood for some time and its condensation and rust caused that pitting. |
