Took the mini for its MOT today and while the front brakes were good (minisport 4 pots) the rears were rubbish.

After some reading (http://www.minispares.com/Articles.aspx?ty=ad&aid=127) it would appear that this is exactly my problem and I do have a FAM782 fitted, its working capability questionable.

The article says to simply bin the FAM782 and replace with a MS72. From what I can see the FAM782 has 4 pipes going to it, 2 from the servo master cylinder (sorry about the servo but it works and its staying on for the time being), 1 to the front and 1 to the rear. The MS72 only 3 pipes. Am I missing something or do I need another part to swap my FAM for the MS?

I would chck the rears over first and make sure everything is in order.

The ms72 fits on the rear subframe and helps reduce the pressure from the mc to the rear brakes. So you have the line from the mc into the middle of the ms72 and the other two rum one to each of the rwc.

Not sure about the servo setup but on my yellow tag I have one line to the rear and one to the front I presume the servo setup will be the same.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

everything is news so new pipes, shoes, drums etc. I have bled the system twice too as i understand the FAM makes it tricky.

there is nothing i can adjust inside the drum/shoes is there?

You have adjusted the shoes haven't you? Little square bolt at the top of the rear of the back plate

the rear shoes need to be adjusted usung the screw at the top of the back plate. How is the handbrake?

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

I think on the FAM782 the ports for the front brakes run straight through the unit, there's not pressure adjustment, so you could simply link the two unions together if you get rid of the FAM782.

Then the rear brakes' pressure reduction can be controlled using the MS82 - one in (from the servo in your case) 2 out; one nearside, t'other the offside.

As suggested above though, the rear shoes can be adjusted using the square drive adjuster on the backplates at the top, but if your handbrake is working OK then I guess these won't need adjusting.
