i got my engine yesterday and started taking stuff off it to see what needs replacing, and in the water pump was some verry thick white stuff its quite hard but you can puch through it ith your finger but the pump still spins freely. has anyone any idea what this might be the engine has been stood for about 1-2 years now i think but could it be a sighn of any other trouble? i will be changing the water pump anyway but if it means anything else has gone then what? |

If its solid/crumbly then most likely it is a combination of old anti freeze crystallising and the alloy water pump corroding. Especially if the engine has been sat for some time with no water in it.

All water pumps are much the same really. Get one with an alloy casing they are lighter. Also make sure its a 1275 pump, the 998 early ones had a smaller impellor.
