I'm having a bit of a thinking moment, and I can't decide which way to go...

I'm not on a budget ad such but I do have a fixed amount to spend every month on mini stuff. I know what I want and that's 200bhp, so I was fixed and settled on a 1293 with benross head phase 2 cam etc etc. I've got an mg 1275 short engine, and the omega 1293 pistons.

However, I also have some +80 flat top 998 pistons! And 2 spare engines...

Now I know which ever way I go I need to rebuild the gearbox, I don't think I'll be able to afford a straight cut gear set but will be able to stretch to the drops. What I'm worried about is gearbox strength with 200bhp!

Do I build the 1293 with fairly standard box, or go for a hyper 998?! Help!

For those that don't know I have all the turbo peripherals from my 998 turbo that's running at the moment.

Thanks

Al

If you want 200nana's go with the 1293. The most i've seen out of a turbo 5 port 998 was just over 150nana's and that was wil & ben's racer.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Well maybe I should have said, I'd be happy with 150bhp as long as the torque is there across the range with the 998...

Obviously there would be a benross head fitted to the 998 if I went that way...

I think you would be pushing pretty hard trying to get 150 from a 998 as a road car.

1275 is 30% bigger, much easier.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Keep up John, we have nearly 180 now.

If you want a drievable car with 200 bananas then large bore is the only way really.

120 to 130 is more like a reasonabe target for a 998.

Thanks Wil, I knew your power was up that way.

Drivability is key, I don't want something that'll be hideous to drive!

1293 it is then!
