hey

bare with me on this one

got a lad with a stock 998 who came to me asking to get it to run right. atm it revs up fine but doesent drive above 1500 rpm. when it came to me it was running a shocking 60 degrees advance without the vac and i cannot get it to run at any less. The engine has been rebuilt by someone and this problem has started since, so its leading me to think that the cam has been put back in wrong. but as ive never seen this i dont know of the result.

am i on the right track ?

thanks in advance, eden

Surely the cam will have no little effect on the ignition point?

Are the leads on the distributor in the correct place/order?

Get it to TDC and check both valves are closed on number one (take rocker cover off) and that the rotor arm is pointing to number one also.

Hope this helps

60 degrees advance, I'm suprised it runs at all.

Cam timing is a good place to start if everything else checks out. If it's miles out then it will cause all kinds of runing issues.
