Hey guys, should be getting a metro turbo lump this weekend, was wondering how much its cost you guys to get your engines reconditioned both doing it yourself and employing a company to do the work for you. Also does anybody know where standard metro turbo pistons are readily available and how much for? Assuming you guys change the pistons when you recon the engine.

Cheers

if your going to the trouble of rebuilding the full engine, forget standard pistons, get some 1293cc pistons, the 10cc cast omegas are very good, take your block and pistons and get the block bored out

cost of rebuild depends on what needs doing, quality of parts etc.

I was kind of hoping to keep the costs down as money tends to come in drips and drabs haha *tongue*

Theres an engineering company near me that could bore it out - what would I tell them "its a 1275 atm and id like it to be 1293" Cheers

You buy pistons and take them the block and the pistons. They will measure the block and pistons and bore appropriately.

As far as I'm aware standard metro turbo pistons are NLA and chances are your bores will be worn unless it's a very low mileage engine, which it won't be *wink*

I'm in the process of getting parts for building a turbo motor. I must have spent about £800 already including the price of the engine, and thats using all used parts pretty much. I still don't have everything i need, but if you're frugal you can pick up some real bargains here and there. I picked up an RS Turbo intercooler off ebay for a fiver last week! Though im new to turbo'ing id say if you don't have all the bits already and you're on a budget, you'll be looking at around a grand to build the motor, more if you're going to rebore it.

yeah okay guys, funny you should mention the rs turbo intercooler - I was watching that myself haha! Im getting the t2 turbo for £35 off a friend so that should be good.

With regards to the re-bore if I go to 1293 will I still use the standard headgasket or will I have to use an enlarged one?

Cheers

Any chance of a breakdown of how you come to that price?

im guessing your guaranteeing the engine to be in good nick. You'll need to look at the crank, crank shells etc check for wear. Look at all the parts that can wear out.

yeah so it could be more =[ I was really hoping it wasnt going to be very costly - I mean when we get to £2000 im half way to a b18c4 vtec conversion :S
