Hello.

got a question for you all today, it is when you have attached your rods to your pistons can they come apart again without damaging the pistons?

reason i ask is that i just want my cars motor built up now and it getting towards the stage it can be, i havnt got the time to balance them all or the money as the daily drive i got is eating money and time these last few weeks with exhaust manifolds cracking and headgasket going etc. so i was wondering if there attached to the rods as they stand will i be able to get my omegas off the rods and be able to use them again when the improved v2 engine gos together in the future.

cheers.

I have made a jig or cradle to hold the piston, out of hard wood, and use a 12 ton press to push the pins in or out. Done it many times with no prob.

You may be able to do it with a big enough vice and heating the end of the rod up, but they are a very tight fit.

Its important to hold the piston in a curved support or you may distort it.

Any engine shop will do it for you - at a price.

I considered that too,but I dont have the confidence to risk ruining a set of rods if I get it wrong.

Also, what happens when the rod eye wears ? Is there enough material there to put a bush in ?.
