I have just received my new carb needle and went to change it, taking the old one out I notice it wasnt sitting perfectly straight.

It looks like the little holder has an extra lump on it from manufacture and I dont know if its supposed to be there?

The lump has even gone shiney where it was rubbing against the old needle.

So the question is should it be there? and if not can I just file the surface flat?

IIRC, that little lump is what puts the needle at a (spring loaded) angle to ensure the needle runs down and up rubbing one side of the jet.

The combination of holder and spring is to deliberately run the needle off-centre touching the side of the jet.

Unlike the earlier designs with fixed needle/jet where the centralisation would be kind of random, by deliberatley holding the needle to one side (touching the side of the jet) the CV (discharge co-efficient) of the assembly is constant so mixture control is much better.

I trust there was a little spring sitting on the base of that needle.....

Hope that makes sense.
