I wouldn't go for one that extreme personally.

It depends on what you want it for, if you want safety then thats gonna protect you against most solid objects.

In terms of stiffening the shell the most important thing I would say would be to have the bars across the door aparture, as this is where most of the rigidity is lost.

I took a second hand safety devices 6 point bolt in cage, welded it in then added some extra bars and tied it to the shell wherever it comes close to it. I have since removed the lower bars between the b and c pillars. Weight is between 45 and 50kg with cds tube, which i feel is the maximum weight I'm prepared to carry. Though by having a decent rollcage you can hack stuff out you can't normally.

Obviously using something like 4340 or t45 steel will make for a light, but expensive cage.

Total cost of mine was £150 for a complete bolt in cage less door bars, and £100 for some extra tube, so pretty cheap compared to the minisport one

Somewhere around Swindon

I think you need to be carefull when buying a cage
The problem whith buying second hand is you dont know if its been in a accident cracking any of the welds, also buying a cage without the manufacturers stickers on is a no no unless you know the history, there is loads of crap out there that may or may not pysically look good but is made from sub standard materials and has sub standard welding, loads of cheap cages have a bolt on joint that slips around the tubing this again is something to avoid they slip in an accident and cause more harm.

stick with the good known brands and buy new unless you know the history imo as the last thing you want is to have a cage tube impail you in an accident

i was looking at this cage at first but decided to leave it as i think this one would make it a single seater.

The turbo build has finally started

As wolfie says, i wouldn't touch anything i didn't know the history of. Also if it isn't fia approved its not much use in my opinion.

I've had one of these for about 5 years now and think it's great, my shell doesn't flex and there's fuck all left of it. Plus you can remove bars to save weight at Avon :)

Does it make it a single seater?

No, I thought that when I bought it. It doesn't have the passenger diagonal

It's not too bad, think in total with plates and bolts its 38kg. It's a harness bar in the back and from the front legs it's triangulated to the bulkhead.

How much are they now?

That seems bloody light, I measured the amount of tube in my car and I got to about 50kg with less bars. 2.5mm or 3mm cds tube.

I'm gonna head off with the tape measure and accurately weigh a 1m length of spare tubing now.
