There are not a huge amount of parts to it!

Top Arm, Bottom arm, Tie rod, hub, cone, trumpet, damper.

That is what is commonly referred to as the "lower ball joint"

Part 7 is just one part of the ball joint (although probably the most important one.....)

It should be matched with 6 and 8

The replacement "kit" will be 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and will usually include the top ball joint parts too (same except the spring (9) is only used on the bottom) as the kits are usually for one side of the car.

They need assembling with care to get the shim pack right.

Minispares, buy the best quality ones, the cheap motor factor ones really are cheap!

Well MiniSpares would be the most obvious choice

http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=...id=35318&title=

but there are plenty of other suppliers that deal with the classic Mini.

You might want to pay a bit more for "genuine" ones rather than the aftermarket copies - search - but that's your choice.

EDIT - Tom types faster than me........

You will need a deep 1.5" socket to undo the big domed nut- also a torque wrench to put it back as it has to be f....... tight (150 ftlb from memory but do not use this without checking)

Most Mini parts places will have these, they will also fit the flywheel bolt and one in the gearbox too if I remember correctly.

nooo dont do the ball joints to 150 ftlbs :), thats the castle nut on the cv joint

the ball joint domed nut (6) wants to be 75 ftlbs it needs to be shimmed correctly too

Someone one ones told me before assembly he always put's the ball pin in a drill while stuck in the ball pin retainer and use some grinding paste to take out bumps and pits out of the pin retainer so he doesn't have to re-shim the next year...

Should not forget to thoroughly clean the parts before assembly..!

Not sure if that is good practice or result of using chinese parts..

Dazed and Confused....
