Not quite as black and white as that. General policies DO NOT generally require the MOT. My subary insurance for instance just says that the car must be in a roadworthy condition, no mention of MOT. MOT only proves it was rroadworthy on the day of the test after all.

A vehicle can have no MOT but not be unroadworthy. They are subtly different.

You'll be ok, the person at the back of the shunt it the one responsible for all damage in front. So both you and the front party will claim from the one who shunted you.

Can you get a friendly MOT centre to say she was on her way to get the MOT test? I seriously doubt it! |

A lad when I was in sixth form smashed his dads land rover, insurance still covered him even though the MOT had expired. I've forgotten about my MOT in the past, it's easily done. Turbo parts collector at the moment, almost ready. |

so someone crashed into the misses in her car today67 riley elf, other persons fault, they drove into the back of her when she stopped at lights, there was someone in front of her that had also stopped and she shunted into them. everyone is thankfully ok, my 6 month daughter was in the car. BUT home she comes and I check all the details and the Mot expired a month ago. anyone know what is likely to happen with the car insurance, I its possibly a right off. Dont worry about it. You'll be fine. It's the other persons fault, but their insurance probably wont want to pay very much for the damage to the car. And your insurance is most certainly not invalidated. Even an MOT certificate isnt worth the paper it's written on. It says so quite clearly !!! only valid at the time of testing Having recently been involved in a non-fault incident myself. I think I'd recommend using one of those accident management companies. I didnt, and my insurance company etc were a pile of useless wanks who did nothing whatsoever to help me. 9.85 @ 145mph

the document states "any liability to others, or loss of damage to any vehicle covered by this insurance, when the vehicle is: being driven in an unsafe, unroadworthy or damaged condition or does not have a valid mot or single vehicle approval certificate where needed" I am unsure if this mean the other party does not have to pay us? At worst they might get sticky over paying out to a 3rd party, but the accident is not your fault, you are not claiming of your insurance in any shape or form. So you could be driving a stolen car for all it mattered. You are the victim. 9.85 @ 145mph

Correct me if im wrong, which im sure you will. it is obviously not your wifes fault that she got hit from behind, but she is liable for being to close to the car infront and therefore hitting it, so in effect that stage of the incident is classed as her fault. |

Thats not true. I got shunted from behind and into the car infront and left plenty of room, the guy who hit us from behind insurance covered my car and the car i hit. Crystal Sound Audio said:
