Now I know this subject has been covered many times 8-) and I'm not wanting start speculating on what's best, just wondering if there had been any progress on developing an alternative to the double grey setup, as this appears to be the main achilles heel after the the gearbox*tongue*

There is the RTS clutch worth a search on here. It's still a DIY job at the moment but people seem to be having good results.

Uprated pressure plates are worthless with a midly tuned motor, >130bhp, the RTS is the way to go, people been using this with >200bhp for a good few thousand miles.

Depends on the type of engine Gav is building. I get the impression it might rev to 9krpm, and the Verto is a little heavy. I did mention to Fast Carl about an aluminium Verto flywheel and pressure plate. Who know's what might happen *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Depends what you want from the engine and whether you want a heavy or light clutch pedal

Is there a step by step guide on the RTS
Pictures would be great too

Preferably something less technical than the RTS thread which goes on for pages and pages

Th don uses one of my aluminum flywheels and TI basckplate with a grey cover, this peadal is unbelievably soft for a grey but never had a problem with slipping, and youv'e all seen the vids

Mines going to be a weekend and track car so i want it to be nice and free reving, i was swaying towards the pre verto. Mostly because of flywheel choice.

I'd probably swing that way as well, just pressure feed the thrust if anything more then an orange diaphram is going to be use.

Yeah i've read of a lot of a lot of main faliures because of grey diaphragms. I'm not clued up on the pressure fed thrust mod, whats required?

1st to provide proof of a running Bimmy Conversion!

we havnt had any problems with the good old std issue grey on "pre-verto' light flywheels & steel back-plates, but anything over about 140-150hp we machine the flywheel & make a ring press fit onto the flywheel to move the pivot point for the spring on the flywheel, this way we can get 1200 or 1400lbs of pressure using a Blue,,, yes just using a blue. this keeps peddle pressure down also, but you do loose a small amount of travel. not a problem tho

using this technique i expect you would be able to get Stoopid clamping force with a grey *smiley* if you needed more than 1200-1400lbs clamp that is

one of the problems using thin lightweight flywheels & back-plates is the flex,,, once a bit of flex sets in then you loose some of the clamping area, so we try not to make them too thin, keep some integrity in the flywheel & back=plates & all should be well

Can you explain it in more detail as the pictures are a bit blurry

I'm very close to buying and building my engine, but would like to use pre verto for the weight saving, but I'm concerned about the heavy pedal and thrust issue with using a grey plate

Was looking at the RTS, but there is no simple instructions on what to do

I'm very interested in your idea

well, simply put, the pivot point for the spring is moved outward, a steel ring is machined & the flywheel is machined to have the new ring pressed onto it, & now the spring is instantly produces way way tougher clamp pressure.

i havn`t used a grey with this set-up because we havn`t had to (Yet) the blue makes enough grab, in fact more than a std grey does, but i expect the turbo-twinky that i`m working on currently may need a grey *smiley*

we`ve done this mode for some serious race mini here in Aus for hundreds of millions of years *smiley* & all work a treat,,, Stewy has one in his 1600cc, Arden cross-flow 6-speed sports sedan with 145hp & no dramas

the only issue is they use less travel to diss-engage, but who gives a shit about that ? *wink* *smiley* *smiley*
