As title anyone with access to Autodata?

I could do with any info on a VW LT 2003 109 TD engine (5 cyl). Acquired one at work to use as a service van but its thrown a rod cap through the sump, hoping it may be repairable as the block and crank are OK.

Cheers

unfortunately my mates coming to pick me up in a few minutes to head out on the p*ss and i only have the install files here, the actual copy is on my laptop in work. for dis-assembly jsut tip-ex the shit out of everything, VAG generally dont have dowel-less pulleys, so aslong as everything is marked it ought to go back together the same way it came apart. will install autodata on this machine tomorow and get some stuff for you though if no-one else gets to it before then mate.

I'm only guessing...but you could find it's just a 4cyl lump, with another one added on.

They have a habit of building engines like that.

Their old 6cyl 2.4 was basically the old crappy 1.6 with an extra couple of cylinders.

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Cheers buddy, that will be a big help.

I got it in bits with plenty of scribed lines and tippex, the fuckers have put the cam pulley on a taper without a fecking key.......grrrr......

Not sure yet if I can repair it or not, with the remains of the sump off it is actually a MAIN cap it has bust the bolts and thrown off- that is a new one on me anyway- I've seen plenty of thrown rod caps, but never a main cap. Typically VW do not sell them seperately- they will sell you a complete block at 2500EURO though, great.
Might get one made yet and line bored.

ouch!, thats my bad tom, like i say i haven't personally came across non-dowelled vag stuff. on the bright side the tool for setting the cam is just a flat bar!

if its thrown a main, either it just hasnt been torqued or surely the whole lump is scrap, like a snapped crank or similar? or hydraulic'd in a big way?

if its just a work kickabout, i have fitted a used main cap to our work kickabout (which arrived in similar condition) got the cap second hand on ebay, and painstakingly filed one end down in the valley it located in till the hole was round and true, then built the non filed side up with weld, then filed that so it located snug in the valley, almost a full days work (on a quiet day!) but that engines done 20k since and still going fine. in our case the cap was lost by a lad who stripped it on a bench next to a bin.... you can imagine the rest.

It is just to use as a vehicle on the site at work, not like it will be hammering up and down the motorway, in actual fact by the book it should never exceed 25mph.
I don't know the full story behind what has happened, there was certainly nothing obviously amiss with the head removed, all I do know is that it was driving around the M25 and then shit itself.
We have a full machine shop with various CNC machines so I'll just get them to make a new cap out of something decent like EN24T and then get the block line bored. I will certainly be checking the crank as well.
