All those with straight cut boxes and straight cut drops, whats the furthest you have gone in it and does the noise drive you nuts after a bit?
I am looking at buying a mini that has both for our run to lemans 1100 miles in four days. Will it be too much? How do they compare reliability wise to normal helical gears? thanks Steve

No not really but already fitted to the car i am thinking of buying. As we leave for lemans on the 9th i am getting a shortlist of cars i am interested (2 at the moment very different) in and must buy this week to sort any potential problems out.
I have a mk1 i am restoring at the moment but its just a rolling shell hence buying something else.

i'd take you out in mine if it were working seeing as you're only 10 mins up the road but alas its fooked.

they're not too bad if its got a full width dash with soundproofing behind tbh. i did about 800 in mine in a week a few years back and it wasn't tooo bad. ear defenders come in handy too.

Ive just come back from the Riv run (270 miles each way) and it wasn't as bad as I thought, and I don't have any sound deadening, carpet etc..

If its got capret and sound deading its not all that much louder from inside the car. I used to use mine as a daily with sc gears.

Take some ear plugs you'll be fine. :)

I might see you there, we're off to Le mans on a stag do. I thought about driving my mk1 but then realised my drinking time would be compromised, lol

If you like the sound then you will enjoy every mile of it

I seriously doubt it!

quickly bunging in a wodge of sound proofing ,and wearing ear plugs .or headphones with some music seems a quick solution ?

I drove to Newquay and back 200 miles each way and was not too bad without ear plugs or music

i drove to castle coombe, belgium, germany, nurburg and back with SC drops and box. 2000miles round trip i did however use earplugs after a while as it makes my ears ring a lot. but having said that i suppose you could withstand about 2-3hours of driving without having a droning noise in your ears :)
