helicoil will be stronger since it itself has a larger contact with the new threads in the block On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

would a helicoil be strong enough ? If fitted correctly it's actually stronger than the original thread (the tapping in the block is on a slightly larger diameter than the original thread, so can carry more load, and the alloy steel used for the helicoil itself is stronger than the material of the original thread in the block). But they are not allways fitted correctly, make sure it's done by someone who knows what they are doing..... EDIT - Sprocket beat me to it..... Edited by Rod S on 29th May, 2011. I thought the same about Helicoils when I first did a head stud, but they really are more than strong enough. Especially on an A series as really you don;t have to torque them THAT tight- I've helicoiled an alloy block Peugeot engine with stretch head bolts that require 20Nm+300 degrees of angle tighten- if anything would test the helicoil that would.
