light load misfire

Started suddenly on Saturday at Shakey.Misfire at idle and no load,cleared as soon as any load applied.Seemed like an inlet air leak.Tried resetting the regulator,couldn't get any flow through the jet.Took the float chamber valve out and found a load of debris,some red.Regulator diaphragm was breaking up.I'm told that the oil companies are putting ethanol in the fuel and this is attacking rubber in classic cars.Any thoughts?
