as a general rule the cheaper they are to buy the more they cost in the long run. ive lived in private rented property's for 10 years all with cheap boilers, and all broke down every 6/12 months.

just txt me dad as he runs a plumbers merchants and he says baxi are a good make in general to go for.

Worcester boilers seem to be pretty good, seen hundreds installed. Saying that though, theres a glow worm boiler in my house, its probably older than i am and still works a treat :)

Worcester have the reputation of being the best, I had one fitted last year but it takes ages to fill the bath

I seriously doubt it!

I have had a potterton that was shit. My current glow worm was great until recently (4 years old) when the main board shit the bed. All the plumbers I got to quote all recommended glow worm or worster though.

Worcester Bosch green star 30CDI 4 years no trouble, touch WOOD, 5 years warrenty, had it serviced annually at 50 quid a pop mind. Get the biggest you can afford or you may be waiting a while to fill the bath, i cant complain at all about mines flow rate.

flow rate on a combi is as much about the flow you get on the cold tamp as well as the hot. if there's no pressure going in, there isn't going to be much coming out

Worcester Bosh are about as good as they get for mainstream boilers, there probably equivalent to a VW if they were a car. Also Worcester are very good for spares and are probably the best out of all the suppliers for spares after the model is discontinued. If you can afford it go for a Viessman there really about as good as boilers get but you will pay for it. Also there is a german company called Rotex who manufacture a fantastic product called a Gas Solar unit..Search for the Rotex GSU...friggin marvelous piece of kit and turns water storage etc on its head. If the rotex isnt for you but you want high folow rates/pressure without pumps then i would go for a decent system boiler (probably a Worcester Bosch TBH) with a Megaflo cylinder...both will give years of no hassle service.

what ever you do, check the flow rate for the hot water - this has a huge impact on usability

as for boilers, you tend to find the installers 'recommend' the ones they either have less problems with for a callback, or get the best discount at the supplier.

have a search around as well and see if there are any government cashback deals avaialable in your area - we got £400 back for installing ours

This is why I don't have a combi, i have never seen one that has a decent flow rate. I have a normal boiler, but with a pressurised cylinder and no gravity water tank in the loft. The hot water cylinder is pressurised at cold water pressure. So this means that a standard mixer shower is like a power shower and the bath fill up very quickly.

this is the way systems are heading; I generally find a combi can only realistically supply 1 tap at a time - no good in a family house

Im not sure if the scrapage scheme is still going, but well worth a quick look. I saved myself a nice amount for the sake of 5 mins filling in forms. :)
