Alright then chaps.

When you insure your modified turbo mini's how much detail do you go into for the spec list?

Last year when I tried to insure the van me and Andy put together a comprehensive spec list and I tried to read it out to HIC over the phone (They wouldn't let me fax/email). Basically I ended up shortening the list and adjusting values to compensate.

Should I say do:-

Rebuilt metro engine
uprated camshaft
turbo charger
intercooler
modified head
straight cut gearbox

and leave it at that?

Or should I go into details about air filter, exhaust, engine internals etc?

Any advice would be appreciated as its getting to that expensive time again with the van.

Everything you can list mate, otherwise they have an opportunity to get out of the deal if you make a claim.

Don't give them the ammo.

Great! That will be fun to get across to them!

Anyone have any example spec lists they have used in the past?

I read out 3 A4 pages worth of mods to HIC, the guy went off and spoke to his supervisor before coming back and just putting them down by category and value. I was quite surprised really as 'body mods £1500' doesn't really explain how far my car was from standard very well. He wouldn't let me email the list either, perhaps he would have done if he knew how long it was.

I got a quote from Flux a couple of months ago for quite a standard looking Audi which I've retrofitted a large amount extras to, they wanted to know every detail about those.

I don't have the problem anymore as I have a traders policy that covers anything, but in the days where I had to tell them it was only ever what could easily be seen i.e. the turbo! I have never heard of an insurance company or the police taking an engine apart, even in cases where a fatality has occurred (a friend ran a drunk over years ago..). I wouldn't give the robbing twats any excuse to charge even more than they already do.

My insurers have every detail, as per above, two pages of close spaced A4, so no excuses accepted fromthem.

Comprehensive cover, agreed value, unlimited mileage with 50% loading for the turbo - £72 p.a.

i am with HIC or NIG.. whichever. i had 3 A4 pages to read to them, right down to the bonnet catches i used and the poly bushes. anything none standard was told! *happy* i bet she was glad to put the phone down after me. i was on the phone that long that my arm went numb

I stapled 2 sides of A4 to my agreed valued policy with details and prices of each modification to my car. Including each individual gauge and solid subframe mounts. It didn't cost me anything more to do it, but means there's less chance of them from declining it or trying to get out of it.

Im with adrian flux by the way. They also wanted pics of front, back both sides, interior and engine bay. Seeing as I change things every month or so, It can be a pain trying to keep the policy correct.

Why do they not want you to email or send the details. All the specialist insurars I use want it written down and signed.

I currently use Sure Term

I and most of my A35 club members use RH insurance (specialist car division) who do a special deal for club members

Give them a ring and see what they have to say 01277 206912

Well.

Best quote so far from HIC is £380 with protected no claims.

Dave's suggestion of RH insurance said they wouldn't touch it as it's "too modified".
