Hi all, finally got enough parts to start engine build.
First question, what piston to bore tolerance do you recommend for forged pistons?
Also can anyone recommend a good machine shop in Liverpool / Preston area?
Thanks

Depends what pistons, you need to check with the manufacturer.

historically forged pistons always grew when hot so you would need to run around 4-5 thou, but a lot of modern ones are much better, i belive accralite recomend 2 thou, and if you run oil jets you can go tighter still.

Cheers Joe, these are acralites. I believe they are no longer available so may struggle to find manufacturer. I picked them up on here, I was going to leave them alone as I was worried about a availability of rings etc in the future but got them at a reasonable price so thought it was worth the gamble

If I didn't know I'd stick it at the maximum specified in the haynes.

My hillclimber is 4 thou, but this is a little big for a road application (unless they really do grow that much)

2.5 - 3 thou would be safe. But check the Haynes.

Plus listers accralite pistons are still available.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Thanks, just googled them but just comes up with a supplier for cannabis plants and bongs! Have you used these yourself?
( the machine shop not a bong!)

Whats the story there then? I bought these about two weeks ago on here from a guy called WRLondon. The deal was quite straight forward, I sent him the money and he sent the pistons. I spoke to him first on the phone and he seemed like a straight guy otherwise I wouldn't of got involved.

Well it was a bit back and forth, i had some money problems as my car broke down, and got some big bills on the house, but he asked me if i still wanted them and i said yes, just had to gather some money first.

Paid him 4 days after, and never heard anything since. it was 320£ included shipping. Did he say that anyone else was interested?

After all it's some money for me!

Sorry to hear that, it's all news to me I didn't know anyone else was involved. I still have his contact details if that helps. As I said, he seemed OK so don't think you'll have a problem and I'm sure he won't want a bad reputation on here

The way I read the sale thread was that this guy has two sets of pistons, but it was a little unclear whether he was selling both sets

I think he wanted one set but ended up with two sets so kept one and sold one on.

Utking, PM'd you
