we watched this last night on chanel four last night, what a fucking joke, i wish these people who earn thousands of pounds got a reality check Clearly those who where on the programme where going to get a job beacuse they are on tv and its looks good for there business and the trainer, they are not going to show the trainer fail because that would look really bad.
My misses has been out of work since october, she has a 1st in her degree, (i only got a 2:1) she has been applying for jobs, any job but does not get anywhere, jobs centres are useless, they do nothing to help other that 'have a look at the adds' and talk to you like shit. companies don't respond.
I know it is hard out there but it is those at the top who appear not to suffer, it is those at the bottom who continue to struggle and bear the brunt of the economy. i just wish those in the government stopped and actually listened rather then pretending they are.

Just getting a first doesn't necessarily get you into a job. Degrees come in varying rates of employability and frequently degrees which you might think highly employable are often the complete opposite.

Take my graduate friend for example. 1st class degree in Law, can't find a job because Law is so niche, unless you want to become a solicitor or lawyer you're screwed.

Humanities degrees on the other hand are highly employable due to the nature of the course. Lots of emphasis on quantitative as well as qualitative work as well as lots of reports, essays, analysis on a range of theories and group work too.

Im 21 and am currently doing my university finals (prorastinating by spending time on TM), and found myself a good job over the easter break which I start in September. I found getting into assessment centres/interviews is the hardest bit. Once you're there, statistically graduates are offered a job after 2.4 interviews. I was offered my job at my second interview.

Once you've got an interview or an assessment, the best you can do is to prepare well with knowledge of who the company are, what they do etc and be really energetic/positive and look interested. The rest is your general personality.

Getting assessment centres and interviews however is massively influenced by your ability to write an excellent cover letter and create a good CV.

Yesterday I was offered a job in corporate insurance brokering for a powerful city firm. I said I already had accepted a job offer and they basically said having read your CV and cover letter, is there anything we can do to change your mind, as we'd be very interested in you coming in etc. Now, i'v not ever had an interview with the firm nor an assessment but it just goes to show how important your CV and cover letter are.

With reference to the dole characters in TV last night, I find it frankly insulting that we have to pay taxes to help support such people who couldn't hold down a job if it was a dead weight.

Sorry for the essay.

Btw, my job is headhunting, so if anybody fancies a good job in the financial side of commodity markets (Oil, gas, electricity brokerage etc), come september ill be your man!

I saw it advertised and knew I wouldn't be able to watch some fat lazy bastards pretend to care about getting a job.

Finding a job is all about luck, no degree or qualification can guarantee you a job, I've been lucky and managed to worm my way into a job in ndt (non destructive testing) which is fairly secure but have a huge responsibility, the mounting pads that hold the arc onto the roof at wembly stadium was checked and signed off by me *Yes* if it happens to fall down and kill 100,000+ people you won't be seeing me for a while put it that way lol

You've just got to hold on for the right job and jump at it when you get a chance.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I work in oil and gas and am registered on a couple of sites, i literally get interview offers weekly.

I find a lot come from linked in now though. The more connections you have on their the better, even if at the time its slightly un-related. I have people on here linked for example.
