Hi guys, looking to buy a car off a friend but theres one thing thats putting me off..

It's a 1996 clio, and was written off, cat C [someone in a 4x4 with a towbar reversed into it and dented the bonnet so it wouldn't close properly]

So with the bonnet fixed and the repair approved by vosa, i'm wandering because it was a write-off will this affect the insurance price at all??

:$

thanks!

Somewhere around Swindon

wont affect the cost of insurance however it will affect the value of the car if you need to claim again

Its all down to the catagory.

Catagory C write off is a 'salvage' catagory. Basically means that the repair value of the vehicle, at an approved garage, would be more than the actual value of the vehicle itself. The insurance company then pays out and takes ownership of the vehicle, declares it a cat A, B or C to the DVLA, then auctions off the vehicle to recover some of the money they paid out.

so for all intent in purpose, there is fuck all wrong with the vehicle if some one is willing to put in a bit of time and repair it, and have the VIC done by VOSA

It 'should' have no bearing on the insurance cost

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Bear in mind that when making an insurance claim for a total loss, you should always base your claim on the replacement cost. So a vehicle of similar spec and similar mileage/condition.

Wouldn't bother me if a car had been a C or D write off as long as it was repaired to my exacting standards...

I certinally never mentioned that my Scooby was a CAT C to the insurance, I don't see how it affects the risk.

Not very sunny swanage

as far as i understand, it doesnt affect the risk, but it does effect the amount they will value the vehicle at if its written off......

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

it only affects the pay out if your claiming on your own insurance if some one hits you & your claiming on there insurance they have to give you book price so you can replace the car there client damaged
