Just looking at oil filters for the MPi block. Going by a search, Sprocket says the thread is 13/16 UNF. Looking for a decent filter with an anti drain back valve.

What are peoples opinion these?

I'll sort you an OEM MG rover part number when i get home. I have cut open several oil filters from Fram, Halfords, Unipart and MG Rover. The MG rover filter is by far the better one. Unipart used to do a premium filter, cant find it anywhere now since I bought the last one from minispares. No magnet in them though, but are almost identical to the MG rover ones. Those ones have a slight waist in them which makes them easily identifiable. Common part for the K series engines too so plenty available.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I think my SA block uses these filters too. Same as the marina/spitfire.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Monkeys! The thread is removable from teh block. I guess I could have an adaptor made up?

It's a bit of a PITA as the filters I have had so far don't have a valve in so when cracking the engine up it has to re-fill the filter before it gets oil pressure.

Hence the reason I would like a filter with a valve in.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Just looked at my MPi block, I think you would struggle to get the threaded bit out. there's no hex section or shank to drip on.

Mine is just a bit of threaded tube with a lock nut on. It comes out easy peasy. I've taken it out a few times.

Get Carl to make you a new one then. Problem solved.
