hi, im looking at plumbing in the breathers in my engine

i know a lot of people run oil catch tanks. for a few reasons i would rather not use one - lack of room, have known them to make more mess than they are worth on other cars

i will be running a re-circulating dump valve on my engine. i was thinking about plumbing the breathers in so that they enter the inlet (after the air filter) at a simular place as the dump valve will return its charge

does anyone see a problem with this on an fi engine?

i know that octane is stated to be effected, but to what extent?

any thoughts would be apriciated.

thanks, dan

I have experimented with a number of systems and piping, but that is probably the only place that I haven't tried. I was reluctant as I don't want the compressor getting covered in shit.

I basically have a 1-way valve between the inlet manifold and rocker cover, it sucks all the crap out at idle, but on boost closes. At this point the engine is breathing into a catch tank, which never fills.

I believe the metro turbo one breathes into the manifold at vacuum and into the filter housing under boost (i actually believe it breathes into the filter)

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Yes John, it does. It uses a two-way valve that shuts under boost.

sadly these valves are impossible to get. all the onles i managed to blag no longer worked.

hi, i have been thinking about this as i am going to start work on this very soon. i am now considering linking the breathers and running them to a point welded towards the furthrs end away of the turbo down pipe. has anyone tried this or does anyone see any problems with this idea. the previous idea would have put the crap back into the compressor and it would also be warm so i am exploring other ideas at the minute. any input greatly apreciated. many thanks

It goes to the filter housing, but it is just after the filter rather than into it.

Jamie, without sounding like a complete twat, are you actually advising the OP to vent his breathers to the floor?
Or was you questioning the meaning of the sentence?

Either way you would be purposely putting oil onto the road, now i'm not one for health and safety but I have to say there, for one, massive danger to bikers and also you can get points..

Lots of bike engines breathe via a pipe to the floor, lots of older cars do. I have a couple of cars that do... and I'm a biker. So yes, I was suggesting it as a solution for breathers. Oil vapour will not cause any problems for bikes. In fact a pint of oil spread over 100's of miles wouldn't either. If it breathes more than that stop driving it.
