Hi all, im a tad of a novice when it comes to electrics, ive managed to do all of the bulkhead conversion and get the engine in today with great supprise, but i am now stuck on the wiring from the dizzy to the coil and for the starter motor, as its not pre verto like my old 1 ltr engine

its a mini mayfair 1987 1000 to metro turbo conversion, unfortunatly i dont know the year of the engine, any help will be greatfully recived.

If you have the electronic distributor, you should have one red, and one black wire i think. Red goes to positive on the coil, black to negative. The type of starter youre using will also help, is the solenoid on the starter or a separate unit?

Hi Carlzilla,
The starter looks exactly like the one in the link
http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-parts/...tor-inertia.jpg

there is an electronic dizzy present with two wires that run to a black box, im presuming this is a modual of some kind but unsure.
thanks

Ah, inertia starter, in which case, you need a remote solenoid if you dont already have one yet.

No unfortunately, but its easy to swap over, you also need a flying lead from the starter to solenoid. The solenoid also requires a good earth, i mounted mine to the very front of my subframe so that i didnt have to move wiring. With my steel front i bolted it through the vertical bar that runs behind the grille. Ill take a photo tomorrow and label all the solenoid connections up for you.

If this works on my phone, looking at it as it is on the photo, top connections are all permanent lives and battery, middle left is coil 12v when cranking, middle right is from starter relay, the big spade terminal on this wire needs to be replaced with a normal sized one, don't get confused with the large terminal on the top post, and the bottom post is the starter flying lead.

thats wikid thanks a lot for that, makes things a lot easier, i had a look at the dizzy this morning, it dosent seem to have any red or black wires, just one large wire with a conector in the middle that gos to a black box with "Ducellier" on it. Is this a modual of some kind? off that there is 3 wires

Black
Black / White
White

i also have a small white box atached to the same bracket as the black box which is rectangular and about 1 by 4 cm off that i have got three green and pink wires, any ideas what this is for?

thanks

Ahh, havent got much of a clue about that stuff mate, wouldnt like to guess it either, h&h ignitions maybe able to help if you ring them, they specialise in distributors and ignition systems

Try the two wire format, White going to positive, and the black/white on the negative and see if anything happens, im sure i read somewhere that one pin isnt needed from somebody experimenting on what went where.
