Chaps what cranking advance do you use on your MJLJ?

Ive never really changed mine and its never been an issue but thought id ask.

1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

I asume 10 degree's would be the minimum you could set it for due to the edis, so I'd set it to that.

My 123 dizzy has an inbuilt 5 deg cranking advance, and I also run 5 deg on my MS

5 degrees is normal for the injection Minis. 10 degrees works. any more and you might start getting to the point where the engine kicks back while cranking.

Look at it this way, you run less advance at full throttle when the cylinder is saturated with the charge. with the engine at rest, and turning over at ~200rpm, the cylinder is pretty much saturated, therefore, ;ess advance required than at idle.

somtimes with too much ign advance at cranking the engine can kick back or be hard to crank, so a lower cranking figure can help,

My idle value for example is about 18 degree's,

also som people like to run the lowest bin values (500rpm) extra high to prevent stalling, ie as the idle comes down the advance comes up and brings the speed up... if you have 25 deg in the 500 bins you are likly to have starting issues, but the cranking advance gets around this as yo can set it to somthing lower

It is a very simple form of idle speed control Mike, adding a control to add air by a idle control bypass valve is more effective, but the advance trick is plenty good enough for what we need.
