We have part owner ship of a shogun with the father in law, recently started an exhaust blow, had it looked at and its on one of the cast exhaust manifolds which he informs me is cracked, now I havent seen it myself yet as he has the car, so not sure how bad/where it is, but I have had a read up and have found it is possible and needs a specialised method ect.

He has a mechanic who can take the mani off, what im looking for is a firm who he could take it to for welding, preferably somewhere around York, ie south, east or west yorkshire, I figured its worth a try as we have been quoted an astranomical price for a new one.

There is a very good forum and I'm sure you will find a second hand manifold.

Otherwise there is a place called Mitzybitz in Rotherham who breaks them and may have one.

welding cast iron properly is a bit of a nightmare, and its not cheap. Second hand manifold would be better

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

i have welded cast manifolds with good old mig and never had an issue. bit of pre-heat, atleast 180A and .8mm wire to get tonnes of penetration. must be into double figures by now and never had one re-crack. mostly turbo manifolds on jap stuff.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Right, thanks Tom, Sprocket and evolution for the replys, second hand mani's it is, to be honest I had not even bothered looking for second hand ones as he is sorting it out, I was just asked the question about welding, but thats the decison made, job done-unfortunatley car is getting to that age where things are starting to go wrong.
