Hi guys, got my engine running today and tried driving it around the yard but when you give it a little bit of throttle it goes flat for a second but when you get past that it picks up fine & boosts ok, i have tried richening it up and it does help but it runs too rich and i cant turn the needle anymore in, black smoke out the back & can smell it. the timing is spot on at 7* btdc. we just cant get it to run & drive propley, the current needle is BDD standard metro turbo, all i can think is that it could be the needle thats not right for it, do i need a needle one up from the BDD to say a BCA 'high boost needle' any thoughts?

the spec is - 1275 a+, avonbar turbo head, modifed cam, intercooler, brand new t3 turbo, turbo dizzy, maniflow 2'' exhaust etc... 8,7:1cr

thanks.

Shropshire.

you need to experiment with different weight oils and needle profiles.

I would start with a BDD then custom profile it, there is a great guide on this site on how to best achieve this.

Took me ages to get mine drivable..

well ive just been to the workshop again and had a look to see if there was any oil in the dashpot even though my old man said he put some in when the carb was re-built...there wasent, dry as a bone! put some 20w50 in and it picks up great. going to go there tomorrow and give it a test round the yard again to see how it goes. cheers lads!
