I've been trying to help a mate out with his mpi, but having no luck!
Basically one day last week it refused to start, so he called the RAC out who told him it was his fuel pump, so he gets another pump, fits it and still nothing, so I had a spare relay, the one top of the servo, changed that, still nothing...He wired the pump directly up to the battery and it starts, but idles at 6k..
So any ideas what the problem could be? as I'm stuck for ideas!

The idle air control valves are notorious for breaking. The valve body usually cracks where the large pipe attaches that runs from the throttle body

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Would that cause it not to start then? Or should i say would it cause the fuel pump to not operate, it does not even kick in for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on.

Is the imobiliser switching off properly? Red light going out etc?
Do you have a multimeter to check for a feed at the fuel pump?

Check the 13 way loom connector pins for scorching. There are two of these connectors. One on the bulkhead by the inertia switch and the the other under the dash on the passenger side right up in the corner of the inner wing/ parcel shelf area.
