Hi all, im trying to get the pickup engine back together and Im having a mare trying to fit the transfer case as the crankshaft seal keeps folding in on itself, Im using masking tape on the splines of the gear and a bit of oil on the seal.

Have you got the seal in the right way round? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Use some grease on the lip of the seal and the protedtec splines of the primary gear. You have to ease the seal onto the primary gear, watching the lip for the reason you describe. You cannot expect just to push it home.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Before, when I've had issues, I've stuffed the primary gear through the seal on the bench then put it all on together, if you see what I mean. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I'm in Bristol tomorrow mate. Do you want to borrow the proper tool as I have a Rover jobbie that will gently push it in spot on.
Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Oh, and do what Wil said. It also works a treat. Assemble the gear and seal before feeding on to the crank.
