When my turbo mini engine is running at idle it makes a funny wirring whining noise. I think its gearbox related because it happens in neutral BUT NOT when i press the clutch down. ANY IDEAS???

If it helps Ive got a straight cut box (not had one before is it maybe a noise that they just make?)

CHEERS GUYS :)

Clutch release bearing chap, or straight cut drops if you have them.

could it be the idler bearing?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I'm not 100% convinced it's release bearing, could be idler or nose bearings. but if these had wear, it would whine as you drove along.

Release bearing is easy to change, follow the Haynes manual to get the wok off to get access to the clutch.

The release bearing would make more noise as you depress the clutch as you load it up. This is not the case here.

It is difficult to judge from the video whether it is the normal rattle straight cut drops make, or whether there is something more sinister. It could be any of the bearings from the idler, to the first motion shaft or deeper.

I would try and get someone who has experienced straight cut gears to have a listen.

Is this a new build, or is it an original build. Has the sound gradually appeared or is this something new to you and never heard it before?

Its sounds exactly like mine when fittded a duff one, the bearing were all chewed and sitting on the nose of the crank making that noise, but when i depressed the clutch it turned into a faint rubmble.
