when i start up the car i get an odd noise comming from the waterpump pully or bottom pully. if i rev the car its go's away, its like a rubbing noise. all the bolts are still in the fan and there is clearence between the bottom pully and the bottom rad bracket, the fan seems to be ok as well. there is a small amount of play in the fan but not loads.

the pump is about 12 months on the car from new, could it be the belt or alt? heres a vid if it helps, has anyone ever heard this noise before?

any advice whould be lovely thanks!

It has got a tensioner on there too.

Are you sure the belt isn't loose and squealing?

yeah, im sure theres a tensioner in there, theres some play in the belt, not loads. sounds a bit metallic for it to be the belt slipping. and its not the rad catching the pully, ive cheacked that..

Did you modify the timing cover case for a duplex set up. Also did you counter sink the two bottom holes on the back plate?

I had this..took me ages to figure out it was the inside of the bottom pulley just touching the timing cover in one place. Made a sort of dull knocking sound. Mine is a belt drive, but it might be worth looking at.

I agree with Jamie,

that pully I put on it has the pressed tin bit on it, where the previous one didint,

try levering the tin forward with a screw driver.

It looks like you might be able to bend it a bit as it only seems to touch on the outer edge. You'll need to make sure the pulley bolt is still tight too, as if you tightened it while the pulley was touching the cover it might not be correctly torqued.

this is what im worried about, it came losse before. so when i changed the pulley i torqued it up to about 180lbs+ ish with loads of locktight, i hate the setup ive got, its shit! when ive got the money ill get a fenton on there.

On the same topic. What purpose does that piece of steel that in your case is catching serve? Mine caught badly on my build so i completely removed it. I was running a belt drive set up but have reverted back to a duplex and original cover and now have loads of room.

To do it properly the pulley needs to come off, drill three peened over rivets out, then that useless tin cover will come off to be stamped upon and thrown in the bin.
