Afternoon all,

I'm in the process of trying to fit an air temperature gauge to the boost piping, I found the correct size compression joint and have had to adjust the length so the sender protrudes slightly, so there is not much threaded material left. I now need a way to fit it to the pipe itself, which is 51mm diameter (stainless). Any idea's on the best way to do this without causing a boost leak? I would rather it looked half decent as well!

I have access to most machinery but not sure what is the best avenue as the thread is so small that any kind of packing etc washer would reduce the threaded area further! The actual depth of thread left is 6mm and I have already turned halved the nut size and cut thread into that so I can't squeeze any more out of it. I'll be aiming for around 15psi max, I assume PTFE or something similar would be unsuitable?

Thanks all

Weld a small boss on the tube and drill and tap through it - like a Lambda boss but smaller.

EDIT - then loctite thread sealant if the remaining bit of that fitting no longer has tapered threads.

Andy - My brazing is quite poor so i'd rather TIG it or something but that's a last resort!

Rod S - If I do it that way the sensor may not be in the airflow itself, would that not give a false reading or would it still be accurate enough?

*It was always going to be Loctited as I don't trust it to stay in*
