i know it has been asked before but i am at that stage now where the underneath is finished and i just got to start on the body work up top!

i am after sheddin weight but still want to stay safe and road drivable!

i currently have a fibreglass roof in my garage,
i also have my mini (still being rebuilt) but sadly when i bought the mini it had a sun roof which is heavy and doesnt fit in with the plans i am doing on the mini at the moment

i intend on doing some non competative motorsports such as track days as well as a couple of hillclimbs (if they are non competative)

but my questions are

do i need a full weld in cage?
are fibreglass roofs noticable once fitted?
are they road legal? legal on track?

Weld in preffered but bolt in will do.

Not if done well

Road legal, depends on the motorsport class you enter. but shouldn't be an issue on general trackdays.

Bolt in cage is fine for hillclimbing, but a GRP roof is not. If you have one you will be insports libra class and therefore need 6 point harness, full cage, etc. Mind you if you have anything more than a 1000cc turbo in a mini you will be sports libra anyway.

As for non competitive you could not be more wrong. It is a proper sport where you need a license to compete. Come along to an event and see what it is all about.
