Damn! think ive changed my oil once too many times now, that will teach me, the thread has knackered! Didnt try over tighten it, i think its just worn out basically, and wont even screw in tight without the copper washer :(

What can i do? I think ill just bodge it permanently this time with some hard oil resistant sealer and next time i need to change the oil ill just change the gearbox. thats all i can think of

They do wear out for sure - Having a copper washer, which isn't that much softer than Alooominum, and a large 'head' to the bolt is asking for trouble eventually.

As JimStar says, helicoil is the best way. It at least means it'll be a steel/steel contact on the threads, so won't wear out again.

Hard luck Feebs - it's just one of those things that happens to everyone eventually.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

yeah helicoil is the way to go, not that difficult to do at all really. somewhere local would probably do it for ?20ish tops.

We also helicoil all our "hot" stuff so that they dont seize in. I did my turbo exhaust down pipe ones. Much better quality thread you get than just tapping cast

I've got an M16 tap in the garage if that is big enough to get a thread into what is left? Needs a 14mm base hole to form a thread.............

Helicoil without a doubt the best way to repair it, but the kits are expensive and you'd need a big size for the sump plug.

Yes, but tapping it out to a larger size cures it in situ without the expense doesn't it?
