well what a struggle it was this time lol.

car cut out thursday night at 9pm about 4 miles from home and i had to bump start it to get back .

changed battery and alternator on fri morning and it seemed ok ...

,then spent rest of day wiring in switches and odds and ends . also made a baffle to go in the end of the refitted side pipe ..
trimed the needle a bit and at this point the thread on one of the carb dashpots screws stripped in the carb .put a longer screw in and thought it ok ...

then collected all the stuff to go in it ,and then realized the throttle was not coming up .poxy screw was long enough to hit the butterfly .. so out it came and i decided to retap it all .now 9 at night ..so tapped it bigger to m6 ,drilled bell to clear ,wacked it all together phew.....

next morning ,after about 5 hrs sleep ,up i got at 7 packed car up ,8am,jumped in and started it up.... dagadgaadagga it went ,no throttle response ,just tickover .tchah!!

off with bonnet and wiped out the dashpot ,yup ,no up and down movement on the piston ,jammed . took of bell again !! and the blimmen tapping had left a raised section on the edge and it was tilting the bell just enough ......tchahhhg! so filed that back together .now it runs .

set off at 8.30 now lol.

drove to esso at eynesham ,put in a fiver , started ok ...

brilliant fun drive with loud sidepipe to chipping norton ,where i got some v power .
more fun overtaking on the a44 to stratford...really decided , must make spud louder lol.

got to avon ,lots of lads already there and tented up ..er sorry that sounds a bit wrong ..

restarted spud to go to grasss ,and the started sounded v poorly again ..damn .

so got my big tent up ..er ..lol,and chatted and walked about ,feeling a bit tired.

saw nic run a 12.5 on 048's ...outrageous .and david cracked 15s and 90 mph in the a35 ,much deserved sucess to the little blue blobule .

nice strong tailwind and coolish air made it a perfect situation .

one of the curiosities of the day was simons car ,which seemed to be evolving into a mini themed variation of 'the magic flute"

making a weird shrieking "kettlesboiled"sound as it ran on boost .
most bizarre ,a mass trail occured in the evening with everyone trying to solve it ,mike half man half mantis sacrificing a layer of forearm skin in the process ,struggling with simons flexible hose ..

we tried 12 different solutions to the problem ,including pouring cherryaid and then pantene pro vo n the carb spinldes to se if they were leaking ! that did not smell that good on a hot exhaust , i think maybe herbal essense next time ?

anyrdup , none of this worked ,apart from making the car smell like a very feminine mk1 from planet gay car.

our last option was to try the plenum to carb joint ,after a bit of gloop and a retightening ,off we went for test drive 382 ,and stuff my bootsa and call me beatrice . it bloody worked ,simon went ,just for a moment mind ,from terminator army doomsday machine ,to giggling little gay mk1 owner lol.

of course somehow the boost got turned up to 20 psi ,and the first sign we had of this was the clutch giving up and dying .so this blew the goop out and we were back to driving past a hundred houses where every one simutaneously went ''oi mum! kettles boiled! ''

went to bed pooped out soon after ,and woke at 2 to the usual ,prime for electrocution, party tent ,which i allways seem to unerringly camp near .finally fell asleep at about 5 .lol.grr

so up at 7 made myselft a bacon and egg sandwich and looked out,,hm ,,looks like a scorcher to me!!


deicded to have a look at the connections to the starter ,so off with the ic and stuff and cleaned all connections ,wacked it back together ''''click !! click click !! barstard .... thankfully tony was there to back the hell out of my noid ,and it worked ,and then worked all day phew ...of course .. i didnt know it was going to work all day lol

then prepped car ..and off to the sign in .

first run ,was um ,iffy lol. ran usual low boost of the line ,semed to pull quite well ,but the clicked to high boost too late in 2nd ,and then forgot choke ,so 14.5:1 afr in middle of track ,used 18 psi pk dropping to 16 psi most of run .

did 2.324 60 ft :)
13.893 1/4@104.78 mph . not happy .

now this is where i had total brain fade ,and forgot just about everything !!
forgot to record on the logger , and forgot that my boost bleed was acting up and has gone from 10 turns for 5 psi more to a quarter turn !!

so i turned it a quarter more ...er... not a good idea ..

so good launch ,good flick to high boost at top of 1st ,choke out ok ,off we go ,nice and strong in 2nd into 3rd oh oh ,knock light came on BRIGHT RED WARNING ,, you must shut off said one half of my brain ,

er unfortunately that wasnt the half in charge at this point ...

the half in charge was going"" yeeeehhhaaaaaAAAAAAA.... ok its gone a bit flat but damn it just pedal the throtttle on and off and itll be ok""


ran 13.264@107.08 see the poor top end , with my last year top end that would have been a 13.14 at 113mph:)


did the pedal the throttle theory work?? ....er .....thats be a big ...NEOOO........then ...


went round for another run ,,,mega hard launch:) ,POP... OFF CAME THE IC PIPE DANGNABIT TO HELLANDGONE ...oh well

so back to the pits ,put on pipe ,started up sounded ok ish ..1 minute later ,oh oh ,shmoke and a waffle ? :$

puffing smoke on tickover cleared on revving then a few seconds later ,smoking again .hmm . then it went onto 2 cylinders ,....game over !



so went and watched the racing , wondering if id got 3rd ,then matty comes up and hes run a millionth of a second faster than me !!!!! tchahhhhrgh lol. good for him he deserves some luck at last ..oh ,and i consoled myself with i mapped it lol.


so drove it home on 2 chuggachugga .....with my freind john and his son stephen as backup in thier surfsupmobile ,..

and had the head off by top gear .burnt through the middle of 2 and 3 ..piston wise i dont know . only thing to do is wack a gasket on it and see if it smokes .. i cant see why it would smoke just from a gasket blow there .but hey who knows .


so some fun and some grief . typical avon i think .

oh commiserations to matt who harpooned his plastic end piece with its own piston rod ...and ron who needs one huge refund from the gear makers .
