What's the issue Robert? Will it be as spurious as last years results?

Balls I'm away this weekend.. Would have loved to seen my car against some of the turbo 998s. Would have been good to see the difference. I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

On 17th Jul, 2011 robert said: love to go, but not on a dd dyno im afraid . nms is not far ?(and a much better losses calculation.) hmm good question wil, for me the interest in using a dyno is using it to reflect the engine design ,good or bad .the closer i can get to crank figures the more usefull it is for me . now the whole transmission losses question has been roiling around the dyno world for ages ,and everyone has thier own take on it . this is mine .. anything that uses a percentage to calculate losses is, to my mind ,totally illogical . it is ok for comparative testing,up to a point ,but how does it cope with the tyres getting hotter on the 5th run ,and absorbing more power? the bhp read will go down ,and the losses will go down ,so the total will vary ....with no change to actual engine power. for trying to get close to crank power its a lottery ,sometimes the figures will add up sometimes they wont . the dd rr and i think dynopak ,use around 19% addition for losses ,plus some other stuff they seem on the rr forums to be a bit evasive about . the overall impression i get is we wont completely explain it all ,because if we do you will see its not based on logic . the other way to do losses is to coast down after the run, and measure the resistance ,compared with nothing ,on the rollers and add that to the wheel power ..now this opens up another can of worms .does the coast down make sense? having calibrated rolling rds that use this system ,i can tell you it can be adjusted to make sense and also to make big losses, so the owner is happy with his 500 bhp 850 mini!(twin carb) in an attempt to work out what the lossses read on a 4 wheel drive rolling rd ,as i was convinced there was a problem on the rear set, i used my bike to run the rollers up to 70 mph and then deliberately pushed it off, i did this with both front and rear sets and proved the rear set had a bad bearing and was reading 6 bhp WITH NO LOAD ..max speed achieved later on at 12 at night was 125 mhp on the roller before launching it off . my personal experience with the tuning of engines on a coast down rr goes like this .. example 1) my turbo 500 bike showed 135 bhp at crank ,115 at wheel .i then sprayed wheel with glue and cinched it down a bit tighter ,i now had 98 bhp at wheel and 134 hhp at crank . the drag had been sensed by the rr and added to create a replication of crank power to withon 1% odd. if that had been a percentage rr after the strap down powwer would have dropped to 120 bhp odd! example 2) a formula one 1968 cooper ,3.1 v8 alfa engine ,had 280 bhp at 6500 ,10 bhp losses .so total 290 .with a dd type it would have had 333 bhp . this constantly measuring the losses can take into account all sorts of things that can affect each run . the reason its not so popular with a lot of dyno makers ,is , it takes a lot longer to do each run ,as you coast down ,and time is money . the quicker the runs go through ,the more turn over . it also tends to make much higher power figures ,so that makes the dyno popular with the customers . the superflow dyno at nms apparently uses a coast down on the first run ,then adds those losses to every run after ,so not as good as a coast down every time ,but much better than %. not sure if that helps wil but maybe a little bit :). regards robert. Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM |

Totally helps. I think coast down is the best method.

As discussed via PM with Robert I would like people to make an informed decision on whether they would like to run, so I am pleased that he has posted to explain why he would prefer not to use a DD dyno.

I wouldn't drop out mark, you know how it goes with all turbo minis, that list of 17 will be down to 10 by the time October comes. I've had to drop out enough times myself, lol. On 20th Oct, 2015 Tom Fenton said:
