Merlins were mainly built buy women.

Incidently, I took this picture at the Woodvale Rally in 2005. I have some video some where too. Check out the hair on the bloke operating the engine, lol, a bit windy. This is a contra rotating twin prop Merlin built onto a trailer and dragged around the show circuits, for nothing other than the show of it :)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yeh:)

watching production machinery will never tire me, just ask Carl. Every time I'm round his workshop, I end up standing at the CNC watching it hack out wheel centers.

I worked at Getrag Halewood for 3 years and the laser welders and Nagel carousel honer were my favorites

I found some video of that Merlin, but I can only find one clip, the other more interesting clips must have been lost in the one or two hard drive failures I've had over the years.

You're not the only one. Can't wait to see his new milling centre in action.

With no disrespect to Carl, those mahines are just toys. Perfectly good toys for what Carl uses them for. You need to get a factory tour at somewhere like Getrag transmissions

Superb, great video.
Not Merlin related, but this site here also shows some amazing British engineering from yesteryear.

I prefer the Aussie approach:

I mean an engine sat on a trailer is no use to anyone really.

I hope my dad doesn't see that. He's got a soft spot for trailers and that would give him ideas!

We were testing the 6S37 at 2500kW by 1976.

Apparently not at Ford Trafford Park! All the men walked out when women were given work at capstan lathes, demanding that it was a skilled job, lol.

Trafford park merlin assembly, and note, only three women at the end of that line.
