Does anyone know of any good site that specialize in jobs for the motorsoprt industry?

I'm looking to start anywhere, low down most likely. And work my way up through as i haven't been and got that special little bit of paper from the big man in an office.

Also any serious advise that anyone has got would be more than welcomed. I know its not an easy industry to break into without (or even with) a shit load of paperwork that says you've been and wasted 3-5 years at uni getting wasted or without major previous experience of working for a motorsport team. But everyone has to start somewhere don't they!

Thanks, James.

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

I'd swear the Autosport magazine I just gave away had a couple in the back, but maybe aimed at a higher level than you're thinking by the sounds of it. The IMechE magazine occasionally has some in the back too if you know anyone that gets it? I'll keep an eye out in future copies for you though...

It might help you if you get some mechanics experience behind you if you're not qualified. Even an apprenticeship.

I'd love do something in motorsport too, would actually like to make the parts etc for my job instead of the things i make now. Would be great to actually turn things that i have an interest in for once.

one day boost will be mine!

I'm a fully qualified mech. Got distictions at NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. No worries there but thanks for the offer.

I have plently of experience working on and around cars and also have worked on a few race cars for friends such as a mates Brisca F2 stock car, HEL performance Evo time attack car, and the odd pro-am drift car here and there.

Seems to be that unless you have hard and fast experience within a proper motorsport team or race series then its very harrd to get a look in unless you know people. Which is why im looking at starting at the bottom and gaining the experience to be able to move up to where I want to be.

Look up national college for motorsport at silverstone, it doesnt matter what grades you have or knowledge you have you just need to prove your fully commited and realise that it will take over your life without warning. I went to this college already been in the motorsport industry they know there stuff they teach you to suck eggs and everything but all the people i was at college with are now spannering for teams one for CRS in leicester who races ferraris and just went out to do the leman 24hr another guy works for a team in the superleague formula

Its not what you know in the motorsport industry its who you know and the guys at the college know the right people in the right places and can put you in the job you are looking for

Alot of people that went to that college ended up doing the thing they wanted to do and some progress further up the motorsport scale there are quite alot of people that apply for the college every year alot get turned away and alot of people stay in hotels nearby just to go to the college had a couple of lads there from wales one from somerset one from scotland all to get a job in the motorsport industry

This is quite a good site

http://www.motor-sport.uk.com/news.php?news_id=1489

check company websites as well

Where are you looking for jobs, location?

It sucks but if you just write to teams saying your willing to start as a junior they might be interested. Even with a degree in Motorsport Engineering its fucking hard to get into the industry.

I heard that prodrive are after engineers. I always thought the best way in is to contact the engineering firms behind the actual race team.

I was going to suggest Aerial Atom at Yeovil but a little far, id just send out a CV and cover letter to any teams and go from there. Any particular form of motorsport your interested in?

To be honest i know it's not an easy industry to break into as i have said so for my first position i'm not too fussed on which area im involved in to start with as it is all relevant experience.

In the long term i would love to be involved a rally team, or one of the top single seater classes.

There are loads of small teams that would be happy to take on someone and train them up. Best place to start because they get to experience a bit of everything.

Thats exactly what im looking for. I'm trying to do research into it today.

Any tips on where to look for small teams and available posistions? Or even just contact details and i'll chuck over a C.V and covering letter on the off chance.

Good place to find teams is the brdc or brscc, usually there is a list of championships and teams. Most have websites. Also the motorsport directory

its a tough industry to get in to and also to work in, as the hours are very long and the pay isnt great! ive got a couple of mates at Team Lotus and one just joined at Williams F1.
Autosport seems to be the best place to find advertised jobs but as everyone has said above you're best bet is finding some local small teams and getting in with them, even doing weekends for free while they are at a race will be good for the CV!
Good luck
