Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Right lads, im wanting to run my lights in my attic bedroom (lads room) on a dimmer switch, the lights in the attic are halogen spot lights that are wired direct to the ring (no transformer type). The current switch is a 2 way with one at the bottom of the stairs and one in the room. Ive gone throughm2 dimmers but both have blown up? What am i doing wrong? Can i not run them on a dimmer?

Cheers

Not sure, but its normally only transformer types that are non dimmable, although some are. I cant see any reason why you shouldn't be able to dim those, just double check the wiring, and that the wattage of light doesn't exceed the dimmers capability.

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

Dimmers come in different ratings, 120watt, 250watts, 400watts etc etc (you get what I mean)

A 120watt dimmer can only handle up to 2 x 60watt bulbs

You need to buy a dimmer with a rating that is higher than the total of all the bulbs that it has to supply

Most standard dimmers from DIY stores will tend to be the lower rated ones, so you may have to go to a trade electrical supplier to get a higher rated one

The link below gives you an idea of what is out there
