hey guys, ive been doing research into this and it seems to be a big thing that dosent get much exposure.

the theory is that adding very small amounts (0.8cc per ltr) of acetone to petrol or diesel reduses the surface tension of the fuel making it combust fuller. this gives an improvement in fuel consumption and increased power.
ive been using it for a week now and its making a noticable differnce, just wondered if anyone else has heard of it or is doing it?

From what I've found out

1. Has an octane rating of about 150
2. Increase power is often reported
3. More stable idle is often reported
4. Cleaner emissions
5. Dissolves plastics and rubber
6. It emulsifies water in the fuel which can cause problems with fuel pumps and injectors
7. Instantly dissolves certain clearcoat paint finishes
8. 100% soluble in petrol, diesel and water
9. Alcohol base fuels reduce the benefits of acetone

interesting, it comes in a plastic bottle *surprised*

il test it on some plastic/rubber fuel lines and see what happens, although id imagine it would be negligable when mixed with fuel

Its often used as a catalyst to mix petrol with methanol

I seriously doubt it!

I have used it in diesel for a few years I have a 50ml syringe I put in two of them to each tank works super, brings my MPG around town from 38 to circa 43 plus allows me to run much more diesel with out increasing ETGs abouve 700 deg c meaning lots more powerrrrrrr

interesting, i cant quite see how it would be giving leathal exhast emissions if its ment to clean up the emissions , il look into it but we are talking 0.080% in the fuel here and if PaulH is correct hes getting a 15%ish improvment in mpg as well as power gains.
acetone is not carcinogenic and is found naturaly in the human body.
i recon its at least worth looking into

This is great news. We use loads of that at work for cleaning materials before welding. We get it in large glass bottles and then fill our squeezy plastic bottles. It does melt certain plastics and our rubber gas hoses don't get affected if it gets spilt on them. It evaporates rapidly and is extremely flammable. The vapours off acetone is acteleye which is a gas used for gas welding. Kabooooom!

someone needs to mix some into some fuel, and leave a fuel pipe soaking in it for a coupld of weeks and the innerds of some fuel pumps, or leave a fuel pump puming this stuff in circles all week long to test its affects on the rubbers and gaskets.

Then why did my Welding teacher at college tell my that an aceteleye cylinder is filled with a huge sponge, this is then half filled with Acetone. This is why Aceteleye cylinders should never be lay down and they can potentionally leak the fluid.

An acetylene cylinder contains Acetylene gas dissolved in acetone. It is right that you should not lay down an acetylene cylinder.

This is very interesting as we have barrells and barrells of the stuff at work. I can vouch for it melting plastic and rubbers, and paints its pretty potent. We use if fot cleaning and getting residue off stuff. Gotta be careful tho as if you use a drill or hoover too soon after using it it can make a bomb. Had 1 boat have a huge fire a few years back from a static charge while someone was cleaning with it.
